Q3, W2: January 13-17 Pre-Algebra

TeacherKristin Andreason
Subject AreaPre-Algebra
Grade Level8
Week #January 13-17
Unit of InstructionFocus 8: Introduction to Functions
Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.8.F.1.2: Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions).  For example, given a linear function represented by a table of values and a linear function represented by an algebraic expression, determine which function has the greater rate of change.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • identify the properties of a function written in algebraic form (e.g., rate of change, meaning of y-intercept and x-intercept, linear, non-linear).
  • compare the properties of two functions that are represented differently (e.g., as an equation, in a table, graphically, or a verbal representation).
Classroom Activities

  • We will do pages 58-59 together in the Ready Math books
  • We will do guided notes with practice examples together on Rate of Change and Slope
  • I will show the video “The Adventures of Slope Dude” to demonstrate the difference between a positive slope negative slope, slope of 0, and an undefined slope

  • Students will begin working on Task Cards on Rate of Change in groups

  • Students will work on iReady for 45 minutes
  • Students will finish working on the Rate of Change Task Cards
Assignments Due
  • iReady quiz due on January 16/17.
