MAFS.912.G-GPE.2.6:  Find the point on a directed line segment between two given points that partitions the segment in a given ratio.  This includes finding a missing endpoint given a point and the other endpoint, dividing a segment into thirds (or fourths, etc.), and finding a ratio when the endpoints and a point on the line segment is given.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • Students will know how to find the percent from a ratio.
  • Students will understand that we can use the percent to find the distance of the new point from the first point.
  • Students will be able to find the point that partitions a segment into a given ratio.
Classroom Activities


  • Students will complete Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Task Cards.
  • Students will take notes on Partitioning a Line Segment and we will do a few examples together.


  • Students will do a worksheet on Partitioning a Line Segment to practice.


  • We will finish the DIA Review packet in preparation for the DIA on Monday/Tuesday.
Assignments Due
  • Parallel and Perpendicular Line Task Cards due at the end of class on February 4/5.
