# Q3 W3 Jan 20-24 Pre-Algebra Teacher Stephanie Durrance 8th Grade Math (Pre-Algebra) 8th 3 Focus 8: Introduction to Functions
Standard(s) Taught
MAFS.8.F.2.4: Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x, y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.  MAFS.8.EE.2.5: Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways.

MAFS.8.F.1.2: Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions).

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
 • determine the initial value/y-intercept from a table, graph, equation, or two points. • interpret the unit rate of a proportional relationship as the slope of a graph. • identify the properties of a function written in algebraic form (e.g., rate of change, meaning of y-intercept, linear, non-linear).

• compare the properties of two functions that are represented differently.
