Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Student Goals: 

  • State the reason why France decided to sell the Louisiana Territory after the 1804 Haitian Rebellion.
  • Explain how the costs of the 1804 Haitian Revolution led to the United States paying a reduced price for the Louisiana Territory.
  • Students will also analyze Confederate monuments this week in order to make a decision if these monuments should stay up or come down.  
Classroom Activities
  • Students will first analyze maps of the United States and visually see the area of land France sold to the U.S. we will discuss how this affected our early country and what effect it had on the Native Americans. Students will read in their textbooks and take notes in their spiral notebooks designated for our class. *It is the students responsibility to catch up and take any notes they may have missed while absent* 
  • Black History Month Activity: Later in the week we will move in our classroom discussion on Confederate monuments. Students will be introduced to the Confederate army and given the facts of who they were and what they stood for. Students will have to vote before the lesson on the issue of taking monuments down or keeping them up. Then we will watch video clips from current events and riots and students will have to make a decision on whether these monuments should stay standing or taken down.

ALL IEP and ESOL accommodations will be provided daily.
