No Geometry Standards were taught.  We will be reviewing Algebra that will help the students have success in Geometry.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Formative

The learning target(s) is to successfully review the following Algebra skills:

Order of Operations – PEMDAS – students will be able to solve mathematical statements using Order of Operations.

Combining Like Terms – students will be able to apply the distributive property to simplify mathematical statements.

Solving Equations – students will be able to solve for the variable in a linear equation whether one or multiple steps are involved.

System of Equations – students will be able to solve the ordered pair that solves two equations using substitution and using elimination.

Understanding the above learning target(s) will be necessary to be successful in Geometry.

Mastery of each learning target will be measured by the following:

PEMDAS worksheet – getting 3 out of 4 problems correct – 75% out of 100%.

Combining Like Terms worksheet – getting 2.5 out of 3 problems correct – 83% out of 100%.

Solving Equations worksheet – getting 5 out of 7 problems correct – 71% out of 100%.

System of Equations worksheet – getting 4.5 out of 6 problems correct – 75% out of 100%.

Classroom Activities

Monday/ Tuesday

There will be an icebreaker activity in the very first class for each class period in place of a Bellringer.  This activity will not be for a grade.  It is an activity meant to let the students get to know me and to let me know the students.  This activity will take 30 minutes.

Then we will go over classroom procedures.  This activity should take 15 minutes.

Give instruction on Order of Operations – PEMDAS – 10 minutes.

Give PEMDAS worksheet to do during class time – 15 minutes.

Give instruction on Combining Like Terms – 10 minutes.

Give Combining Like Terms worksheet do during class time – 15 minutes.

Wednesday (Short Class – Early Release Day)

Bellringer on PEMDAS & Combining Like Terms – 5 minutes.

Go over Bellringer and PEMDAS and Combining worksheets answers – 25 minutes.

Thursday/ Friday

Bellringer on PEMDAS & Combining Like Terms -5 minutes.

Go over Bellringer answers – 5 minutes.

Give instruction on Solving Equations – 20 minutes.

Give Solving Equations worksheet to do during class time – 20 minutes

Give instruction on System of Equations – 20 minutes.

Give Solving Equations worksheet to do during class time – 20 minutes.

Students have a chance to earn 6 grades this week – 2 Bellringers and 4 worksheets.

• Bellringers – due 10 minutes after the start of each class period.
• PEMDAS worksheet – due at the end of class on Monday, August 15th for 2nd period and Wednesday, August 16th for 7th and 8th
• Combining Like Terms worksheet – due at the end of class on Monday, August 15th for 2nd period and Wednesday, August 16th for 7th and 8th
