Unit of InstructionFocus 11: Systems of Linear Equations
Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.8.EE.3.8.a

Understand that solutions to a system of two linear equations in two variables correspond to points of intersection of their graphs, because points of intersection satisfy both equations simultaneously.

MAFS.8.EE.3.8.b

Solve systems of two linear equations in two variables algebraically, and estimate solutions by graphing the equations. Solve simple cases by inspection.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students are successful when they can…

  • graph a system of linear equations
  • identify the points of intersection as a solution to a system of linear equations.
  • define the solution to a linear equations as the intersection point on a graph.
  • identify the graph of 0, 1, infinitely many solutions for a system of equations.
