SS.8.A.2.4 Identify the impact of key colonial figures on the economic, political, and social development of the colonies.

SS.8.A.1.1 Provide supporting details for an answer from text, interview for oral history, check validity of information from research/text, and identify strong vs. weak arguments.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will compare and contrast the 3 colonial regions geographically, economically, and culturally. 

Students will engage with primary documents and have a discussion on slavery.

Students will choose one of the below assignments due Thu/Fri

Poster/Brochure

  • Select a region or colony to feature and create a poster/brochure that advertises the features of the region.
  • Include:
  • At least 2 ways the climate and geography and resources are unique to the region.
  • At least 3 ways people used the resources of the region to live
  • At least 1 piece of information about the founder or first settlers of the colony
  • At least 2 pieces of information about the culture/religion of the colony
  • The letter/advertisement should be created in a way that is appealing to potential colonists (2 points)

Skit

  • Write a skit in which a person from each of the colonial regions brag about why their region is the best over dinner. You will present this on Wednesday.
  • Include:
  • Geography of each region (3pts)
  • Economics of each region (3pts)
  • Culture/Religion of each region (3pts)
  • Include at least 1 relevant historical person (1pt)

Thu/Fri

Students must participate at least once in the class discussion on slavery
