Students will learn about the instruments of the music classroom and be able to properly demonstrate how to behave with them and play them. 

Students will find and maintain a steady beat. 



Classroom Activities

Welcome to Music Class

Students will learn where their circle spots are and practice walking to them. 

“Hello There”

  • Matching pitch
  • Echo singing
  • Vocal warm-up

Go over rules and classroom procedures

  • Practice some of the rule and procedures (lining up, raising hands, walking to circle spots, etc.) 

Beat Buddy Exercise

  • Finding and Maintaining a steady beat
  • Imitating teacher or peer keeping the beat

Solo Singing with Echo

  • Matching pitch
  • Singing voice
  • Echo Singing

Learn about the xylophones 

  • Go over how to properly play the xylophones
  • Get assigned xylophone color and spot
  • Practice walking to their spot
  • Holding the mallets 
  • Sitting with the xylophone
  • Rest position 
  • Playing position

“Listen to the Sounds of the Instrument” 

  • Bordun practice: Chord, Broken, Level, and Crossover
  • Sing and play
  • Learn the different names for all the xylophones
