Students will learn about the instruments in the music room and how to play them properly. 

Students will learn about patriotic music as well as music from around America.

Music class introduction – go over rules and procedures

Ice Breaker Name Game

Body Percussion exercise – rhythm and listening 

Patriotic music and music of America

  • America the Beautiful (with sign language) 
  • America – singing voice
  • Gonna Ride Up in a Chariot – singing voice, African American spiritual
  • Rocky Top – Country music, Tennessee

Li’l Liza Jane

  • Read lyrics
  • Go over musical form
  • Body percussion – keeping a steady beat, practice before adding instruments
  • Add xylophones 

– Discuss background of each song, go over lyrics, define form and musical textures.
