Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will learn the rules and classroom procedures for Music Class. 

Students will demonstrate their understanding of the rules and procedures (practice)

Students will sing echo phrases.

Students will match pitch with the teacher. 

Students will solo sing and echo phrase and practice matching pitch. 

Students will move to music to show what they hear. 

Students will learn about the instruments in the room and demonstrate how to properly behave with them and play them (hand percussion instruments). 

Classroom Activities

Welcome to Music Class

Have students come in and learn where their circle spots are.

“Hello There”

  • Echo singing 
  • Matching pitch
  • Vocal Warm-up 

Go over the rules of music class

  • Practice some of the rules ex. raising hands, walking to circle spots, etc. 

Beat Buddy Exercise

  • Keeping a steady beat
  • Imitating the teacher or peer keeping a steady beat

Solo Singing with Echo

  • Matching pitch
  • Solfege 
  • Echo Singing

A Different Beat

  • Move to music to show what you hear 
  • Describe what you hear
  • What kind of movement would go with this sound or rhythm? 

“I Can Play and Instrument”

  • Learn about the different hand percussion instruments in the classroom
  • How to behave with them
  • How to play them
  • Demonstrate
  • Have students get into groups and take turns on each instrument keeping a steady beat with the song
  • Singing and matching pitch
