Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will sing using their singing voice.

Students will be able to read musical rhythms : quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, whole notes, quarter rests

Students will demonstrate rhythms. 

Student will sing and dance two different American folk dances while maintaining a steady beat. 

Students will begin learning their Winter Performance pieces. 

Students will sing songs with changing dynamics. 

Students will be able to identify the different dynamics (piano, mezzo piano, mezzo forte, forte) 

Students will be able to move to show different tempos.

Students will be able to identify the form of a song (2nd grade) 

Students will show the different parts of song with movement (2nd grade)

– Split into groups, have groups come up with different movements for the different sections of a song, share ideas with the class

Winter Performance Pieces

Out in the Cold (1st and 2nd)

  • Has anyone ever been somewhere cold?
  • What kind of animals like the cold?
  • What do you wear when you are cold? 
  • Has anyone ever seen snow? What is it like?
  • Is Florida cold?

– Show powerpoint picture presentation

– Discuss which animal their class will be for the winter performance (1st – Polar Bears, 2nd – Terns and Seals)
