Vocal Warm-up 

Beat Buddy Exercise  (find and maintaining a steady beat) 


  • Read through song “Click, Click, Click”
  • Discuss rhythms students see and how we count them (review)
  • Discuss/review musical terminology seen in piece
  • Review musical form 
  • Practice piece with body percussion and words
  • Transfer to African Drums
  • Teacher assessment (Observation) 

The Koala Who Could

  • Read through story
  • Discuss reading question – what is the moral of the story? What was Kevin so afraid to do? Why did Kevin change his ways? etc. 
  • Learn song that goes with story (body percussion) 
  • Add xylophones 
  • Discuss chord and broken borduns 

New songs

  • Black Snake – Introducing new rhythms and terminology (a tie – musical symbol that joins two notes together)
  • Three Little Birds – Review of musical form
  • Train is a-comin’ – American history, reading rhythms, ostinatos
