Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will sing with their appropriate singing voices.
Students will be able to identify Forte and Piano (loud and soft).
Students will begin working on and memorizing their Spring Performance pieces.
Students will read a book and be able to compose their own instrumental accompaniment for each animal in the story.
Students will sing an American folk song and play the game that goes along with it.
Students will be able to find and maintain a steady beat while listening to a piece of music.
Students will show through movement different styles of music.

Vocal Warm-up “Hello There”

Put students in groups and have them come up with their own animal rhythm or sounds on instruments (1st grade, possibly kindergarten)

Introduce “Abby Yo Yo” (1st grade)

  • African folk story and song
  • Have students listen to story (watch video)
  • Add xylophone accompaniment to folk song
