Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • I can create an ORGANIC-shaped SCULPTURE using PATTERN and COLOR.
  • Today I will learn about  ORGANIC SHAPES, so that I CAN create  a SCULPTURE in the style of Alexander Calder. 
  • Today I will learn about PATTERN, so I CAN make sections all having a variety of PATTERNS.
  • Today I will learn about ARTIST DALE CHIHULY and how he was known as the artist who created glass sculptures.


Classroom Activities

Students will watch a YouTube video and learn about Dale Chihuly and the Science of  Glass Blowing. Following this, students will create an organic shape out of shrink wrap and create a design using a variety of patterns and color. I will later heat the wrap to create their own unique Chihuly inspired sculpture. Students will publish their work on Artsonia along with an artist statement.
