•Today I will learn about LINE and SHAPE, so that I CAN draw a realistic dragonfly.

•Today I will learn about SPACE, so that I CAN add details to the negative space of my drawing to tie into main subject matter of the dragonfly. I know I will have it when most of the space of the paper is filled up.
•Today I will learn about CONTRAST, so that I CAN create a dragonfly that stands out from the background by choosing colors for the foreground and/or background  that make the dragonfly pop.
•Today I will learn about WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUES, so that I CAN add interesting details and implied textures to my dragonfly.

Classroom Activities

Students will learn about copyright law and watch a video to learn characteristics and facts about dragonflies. They will explore different watercolor techniques and will be able to use their Kindles to research and gain inspiration for their chosen design and backgrounds. Students will then use watercolor pencils to sketch their design than paint them with watercolor paint. This will be for their Square1 project. Upon completions, they will publish and discuss their work on Artsonia.
