Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Today I will learn about LINE and SHAPE, so that I CAN draw my own LOVE MONSTER inspired by the children’s book by Rachel Bright. I’ll know I have it when my monster is drawn large, taking up most of the space of the paper.
• Today I will learn about COLOR, so that I CAN use Tempera to paint my monster with bright and vibrant colors.
• Today I will learn about IMPLIED TEXTURE, so that I CAN make my monster appear to “feel” furry by using short repeated lines as fur.

Classroom Activities

We will discuss everyday objects that have been designed and created by artists and where art ideas or products can be found in stores. We will watch a read aloud, “Love Monster,” by Rachel Bright and discuss the illustrations. We will practice using different lines and shapes to express different emotions. Student’s will then begin to create their own Love Monster for their Square1 art project. Upon completion, students will title and publish their work on Artsonia.
