Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
• Today I will learn about LINE, PATTERN, and TEXTURE, so that I CAN create PAINTED PAPER using tempera paint, scraping tools, forks, sponges, swirls, dots, and even splatters of paint!
• Today I will learn about CONTRAST, so that I CAN select paint colors for my background that will make sure my seahorse stands out.
• Today I will learn about MIXED MEDIA, so that I CAN trace and cut my seahorse to a painted background. I will also add decorative details such as “googly” eyes, glitter, and sequins to have a mixture of materials to add visual interest.
Classroom Activities

We will watch a read aloud of the book, “Mister Seahorse” by Eric Carle. Read the book and I will point out all the wonderful illustrations and  ask the children what colors they see in
the seahorse and if they are real or imaginary. Students will then create their own painted paper using neon tempera paint, contrasting colors and different tools to add interest. Next student will paint their background waves with neon watercolor paint. Students will choose a seahorse template and add on details of their choosing to their seahorse using collage techniques. After decorating their seahorse they will create his habitat by adding seaweed, schools of fish, shells,
starfish, etc. Upon completion, students will upload and title their artwork on Artsonia.
