Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • Today I will learn about LINE and SPACE, so that I CAN draw a tropical bird. I’ll know I have it when I have combined line and shapes to create an tropical bird.
  • Today I will learn how to paint with WATERCOLORS. I will learn how to use RESIST and how to mingle paint colors.
  • Today I will learn about CONTRAST, so that I CAN paint my design making sure the bird stands out from the background.
  • Today I will learn about COLOR, so that I can mix colors to get my desired effect.
Classroom Activities

Students will learn about artist, Henri Rousseau. We will watch a video and discuss some of his artwork.  We will also discuss items that are created using artistic skill. Students will draw a tropical bird and add a background of their choosing. They will use oil pastels to go over lines and create a resist in their background. Next, they will paint using watercolor and blend colors, being mindful of how certain colors blend. Upon completion, students will upload their work to Artsonia along with an artist statement.
