Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • Today I will learn about the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, so that I can discuss at least 3 facts about the bird 
  • Today I will learn about painting, so that I can use 2 different techniques in my art: watercolor wash and dot painting with tempera. 
  • Today I will learn about value so that I can mix yellow with white to create tints.
  • Today I will learn about movement, so that I can use the dot painting technique to create the illusion of movement in the sky. 

Van Gogh Sunflowers

  • Today I will learn about Space and make sunflowers for a collaborative piece for the Volusia County Fair and place larger ones toward the foreground and space them further apart so that some flowers appear closer than others.
  • Today I will learn about artist, Vincent Van Gogh, and be able to describe some of his artwork.
  • Today I will learn about color, so that I can use a washable marker and color my coffee filter in different lines and scribbles and watch the color spread as I spray it with water.  
Classroom Activities

This is 2nd grades Square1 art project. We will compare and contrast artwork with everyday objects we use and  objects from everyday life that have been designed and created using artistic skills.  We will also discuss how art can be used to tell about events within the school or community.  Students will learn about Australian Aboriginal Art and the dot painting technique. We will compare and contrast artworks from different times and cultures. Students will learn some facts about the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo that are native to Australia. They will then learn two different techniques in painting, including watercolor wash and dot painting with tempera to create their background to show movement in the sky. They will learn about value and create tints for both the background and cockatoo. They will also learn about collage. They will cut and glue the sun and cockatoo to the background. Last, students will upload their work on Artsonia, along with a statement.
