Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• Today I will learn about OP ART, so that I CAN make a work of art that plays tricks on the eye.
• Today I will learn about FORM and VALUE, so that I CAN use curved lines and different shades or red to create the illusion of a waving flag.
• Today I will learn about PATTERN, so that I CAN repeat colors and lines in an organized way.

Classroom Activities

Students will learn about Op Art and the Op Art Movement. They will use a ruler to divide their paper vertically with diagonal lines. Horizontally, they will use curved lines to create the illusion  of a waving flags stripes. Students will practice applying different amounts of pressure to their crayon to make different values of a color to give the illusion of movement, form, and distance in order for parts of their flag to look closer and other parts, further away. Last student will draw stars and cut and glue them to their flag.
