Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • Today I will learn about SHAPES, so that I CAN make concentric circles like Kandinsky. I know I’ll have it when my squares are covered with 2 circles in 2 different sizes.
  • Today I will learn about PATTERN, so that I CAN draw repeated lines around the circles and repeated stamping on my background.
  • Today I will learn about COLLAGE, so that I CAN safely use scissors and glue to cut and paste my circles onto my background.
Classroom Activities

Students will learn about artist, Wassily Kandinsky. We will discuss pattern, collage, and shape. Students will then paint their background with tempera paint and use items to stamp concentric circles on top. Next, students will create a tree and branches out of black construction paper and glue it to the background. After, students will trace and cut out 2 different sized circles and glue them to the branches. Finally, students will draw line patterns around the larger, bottom circles.
