Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • Today I will learn about symmetry, so that I can draw half of my heart shape and patterns on folded paper using oil pastel, close it, and rub to transfer the image. I’ll know I have it when my heart is the same on both sides.
  • Today I will learn about primary and secondary colors, so that I can use tempera paint to add color to my heart, mixing 2 primary colors to make a secondary color using the double loading technique.

Classroom Activities

Students will watch a video on primary colors. They will then draw their heart shapes and patterns using symmetry and oil pastels, followed by painting them in primary and secondary colors and then cutting it out and gluing it to construction paper. Student will then fill out an artist statement and share their work.
