Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

We learned how to make homemade ice cream! 🙂  Thank you to the many parents who sent supplies to make our ice cream unit such a success, we appreciate you!

Classroom Activities

As our dairy unit continues, our students explored making ice cream with their classmates.  I’ve included the recipe if you’d like to try it at home.  It surely made for exciting times in class. 🙂

RECIPE:  1 tbsp of sugar,  1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup ice cream salt, 1  gallon bag of ice (half full).

Put sugar, vanilla extract, and milk in a quart size ziploc freezer bag and seal making sure to get all air out.  Then pour the ice cream salt into the bag with the ice and put the bag with the milk into the ice bag.  Here’s where the family fun begins!  Take turns shaking the bag for the next 5-7 minutes until the mixture turns to ice cream. 🙂  Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
