Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will demonstrate the ability to determine the meaning of similes and metaphors in context

Students will provide a statement of a theme of the text including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges

Students will determine the meaning of words as they are used in a text.

Students will compare colonies and identify motivating factors for settlement.

Classroom Activities

·         Small group learning centers – students will work in small groups to further enhance concepts introduced in whole group instruction. Center rotations include reading, writing, computer work (ThinkCERCA & ixl), vocabulary, ipads (ixl), and teacher conferencing/small groups instruction for further individualized work (writing conferencing, main idea practice).
