·         LAFS.5.RL.2.5: Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem.

·         LAFS.5.RL.3.9: Compare and contrast stories in the same genre (e.g., mysteries and adventure stories) on their approaches to similar themes and topics.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

·         Student will provide a statement of a theme of the text including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how a speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic.

·         Students will provide an explanation of how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama or poem

  • Students will determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases using context clues in grade 5 texts
  • Students will provide a comparison and contrast of stories in the same genre in their approaches to similar themes and topics.
