SS.5.A.3.1 – Students will be able to describe technological advancements that shaped European Exploration

SS.5.A.3.2 – Students will investigate the European Explorers 

LAFS.5.SL.1.1 – Students will listen and participate in discussions, building on the ideas of others and clearly stating their own.

LAFS.5.SL.1.2 – Students will be able to summarize information presented in diverse media and formats. 

LAFS.5.W.1.3 – Students will write narratives to develop imagined experiences or events using dialogue, descriptive details, transitional words, clear event sequences, and a logical progression. 

LAFS.5.W.1.2 – Students will write an informative piece explaining a topic using an introduction, related facts, details and definitions, and a concluding statement or section. Students will also use linking words or phrases to connect sections of information 

Classroom Activities

European Explorer Simulation: Students will work with small groups to complete a simulation of what it was like to be an explorer during the Age of Exploration. They will participate in group discussions and make decisions that will effect the outcome of their group’s expedition. 

Finish Informative writing – Hydroelectric Plants and Wind Powered Turbines

Explorer Simulation Personal Journal – Journal entry from the 5 days of the simulation (in class)
