Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Our focus for this quarter is to prepare for performances and get our competition choreography clean. We will continue working on dance technique, with a strong emphasis in ballet, as well as learning the correct terminology. We will work hard on musicality and learn how to dance as a unit in time with the music. Dancers will discuss choreographic elements, including entertainment purpose and learn how to emote and tell a story/create a mood with each piece.

Classroom Activities

Our typical week will look like:

Mondays: Ballet technique class
Tuesdays: Clean the technique and timing of group dances
Wednesdays: Review all solo and duet pieces, as well as train in dance conditioning
Thursdays: Work on Nutcracker pieces
Fridays: Clean and correct group competition dances

Assignments Due

Upcoming Performances for this Quarter:

November 6th: Volusia County Dances at Mainland High School
November 15th: Works in Progress
December 13th: Nutcracker with a Twist

We will complete a performance critique following each of these performaces that will count as a summative grade. We will also complete in class peer critiques.
