Big Idea: Skills, Techniques, and Processes: Enduring Understanding 3; Through purposeful practice, artists lean to manage, master and refine simple, then complex, skills and techniques. TH.68.S.3.1: Develop Characterizations, using basic acting skills, appropriate for selected dramatizations.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will rehearse their monologues focusing on building a character.

Students will practice using mannerisms to build a character. 

Classroom Activities

Rehearsal for Class of Monologues: Students will rehearse their chosen monologue for the class. Teacher feedback will be given.

Mannerism activity: Students will choose a mannerism that would fit their monologue character. Using small groups, the student will create an improv with their selected mannerism. Others in the classroom will observe Improv and will try to guess the mannerism being used. 

Skill Game: With remaining class time, students will participate in a skill game of their or the teacher’s choice.
