Students will practice various movement techniques to assist in building a character with the body or from the outside to inside. 

Students will learn the techniques of Laban

Students will choose and rehearse a monologue using various techniques of building a character. 

Students will review the actor’s tools. 

Classroom Activities


  1. Student lead vocal warm-up–Good Morning Your Majesty
  2. Finding Monologue, copying and beginning to memorize.
  3. What makes a “good” monologue? (discussion)
  4. Putting away costumes and props used in scenes.
  5. Make up performance for any who missed performance date.
  6. Exit Ticket: How does a change in voice assist in characterization?


  1. Discuss and work on various ways of memorization
  2. Rehearse monologues with a partner
  3. Ensemble Building Game


  1. Student lead warm-up
  2. Rehearse Monologues
  3. Building a character from the outside-in using movement–Laban
  4. Activity using Laban movement
  5. Exit Ticket: describe one thing you saw today that clearly showed characterization.
