MAFS.7.NS.1.2:  Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers.  Multiply positive and negative integers using properties of operations.

MAFS.7.NS.1.1:  Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers.  Understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, p – q+ (-q).

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • Students will be able to define the quotient of two integers as a rational number
  • rewrite a negative fraction in multiple forms
  • use long division to convert a rational number to a decimal
  • apply the distributive property in an equation
  • add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators
Classroom Activities

Tuesday (following Monday Schedule):

  • Students will follow three rotations:
    • Students will work in small groups with the teacher to better understand operations with fractions
    • Students will do Task Cards adding and subtracting fractions
    • Students will do IXL 6th Grade I.3 and J.3


  • Students will play a four corners game where they have to solve an equations adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers


  • Students will follow three rotations again:
    • Students will continue to work with teacher on operations with fractions
    • Students will finish Task Cards
    • Students will continue work on IXL 6th Grade I.3 and J.3
Assignments Due
  • Task Cards will be due on Thursday, October 18
  • IXL assignments are due on Monday, October 22
