MAFS.7.G.2.6  Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume, and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.

MAFS.7.G.1.3  Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures, as in plane sections of right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will:

  • determine the area of two-dimensional figures (triangles and quadrilaterals).

  • determine the surface area and volume of three- dimensional figures.

  • solve real-world problems involving area, surface area and volume.

  • solve problems involving a missing dimension of a geometric figure.

    • discover the two-dimensional shapes that result from slicing three-dimensional figures.

    • develop three-dimensional visualization skills as they see the resulting two-dimensional shapes.

  • Review Standards for FSA (in folders)
  • View nets and models of various types of prisms, pyramids, cones, cylinders
  • Take close notes on volume of rectangular prisms 
  • Guided & independent practice – volume of rectangular prisms
  • Take close notes on volume of triangular prisms 
  • Review Percent Discounts 
  • View video showing slicing of 3-D figures to show the shape of cross-sections
  • Cut 3-D shapes made of kinetic sand to discover cross-section shapes
  • Kahoot game

  2. Volume of Rectangular Prisms (notes & 12 problems in class)
  3. Volume of Triangular Prisms (notes in class & 7 problems for homework due Wed.)
  4. Review Percent Discounts – 8 problem homework sheet due Wed.)

Wednesday:  I-Ready Tasks and Growth Checks

Thursday & Friday

  1. Standards Review Folders – p. 6 or 7
  2. Cross-sections of 3-D Figures – close notes and guided practice
  3. Cross-sections of 3-D Figures – lab and independent practice
  4. Math Space homework assigned for weekend – Volume Practice (8 questions) and Cross-section Practice (6 questions).

Test on Volume & Cross-Sections will be on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
