Standard(s) Taught
 MAFS. 912.F-IF.2.6: Calculate and interpret the average rate of change of a function (presented symbolically or as a table) over a specified interval.  Estimate the rate of change from a graph. MAFS.912.A-APR.2.3: Identify zeros of polynomials when suitable factorizations are available, and use the zeros to construct a rough graph of the function defined by the polynomial.
Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
 ·         identify zeros from a graph of a polynomial.   ·         identify zeros of factored polynomials.   ·         identify the multiplicity of the zeroes of a factored polynomial.   ·         explain how the multiplicity of the zeroes provides a clue as to how the graph will behave when it approaches and leaves the x-intercept.

sketch a rough graph using the zeroes of a polynomial and other easily identifiable features such as the yintercept and the end behavior.

Classroom Activities
 Monday/Tuesday: Monday – Teacher Duty Day (No School for Students) Tuesday: Bellringer: Number Sense Problem 24 (5 min) Whole Group: Discuss project students will complete “Creating a Rollercoaster” using knowledge of functions Small Group: Students will work with a small group to create a rollercoaster of a function in factored form. They will identify the function, the zeros, the behavior of the zeros, degree, leading coefficient, end behavior of the graph, and average rate of change between two points of their graph. They will also sketch their graph on graph paper. Wednesday: Bellringer: Number Sense Problem 25 (5 min) Whole Group: Kahoot! Review of Unit 3 – Introduction to Functions for DIA 2. Thursday/Friday: Bellringer: Number Sense Problem 26 (5 min) DIA 2 – Unit 3 Introduction to Functions Early Finishers – Algebra Nation on Ipads, Section 4, Topic 1. Students will listen to video on Arithmetic Sequences and take quiz. All IEP and ESOL accommodations provided daily.
