Unit of InstructionMy students will get to know the teacher and each other, learn spelling and vocabulary words taken from our reading selections this week, begin cursive writing, read aloud with expression, and write a beginning survey.

Spelling/Vocabulary Words:

  1. debut – a first appearance or performance
  2. offspring – an animal’s young
  3. captivity – imprisoned, locked-up, or confined
  4. media – television and radio reporters
  5. enclosure – an area sealed off with a barrier
  6. complex – an area created for something special
  7. bamboo – a tall rigid grass
  8. mimicking – imitating
  9. diplomatic relations – friendship between two countries
  10. natural habitat – an animal’s normal home in the wild
  11. suspenders – a pair of straps that pass over the shoulders to hold up pants or jeans
  12. ottoman – a low seat or footstool
  13. jiffy – a hurry
  14. squint – to look at something with one or two eyes almost closed to see more clearly
  15. pole – fishing pole
Classroom Activities

Monday – Town Hall Meeting, tour of the class, discussion of expectations and classroom rules, “When Uncle Ronnie Comes to Visit” 

Homework – Read “When Uncle Ronnie Comes to Visit” aloud to a parent, write spelling words 10x each, read for 20 minutes before bedtime. Parents should sign.

Tuesday – Town Hall Meeting, check homework, cursive writing, reading, writing

Homework – Write sentences with spelling words. Your sentences should show me that you know the meaning of the word. Parents should sign. 

Wednesday – Independent reading, group activity. Check homework. Review spelling and vocabulary.

Homework – NO HOMEWORK

Thursday – Town Hall Meeting, cursive writing, reading, writing, class activities

Homework – Read “BabyPanda” aloud to your parent. Read slowly and with expression. Parents should sign.

Friday – Spelling test and Vocabulary test. Reading, writing, activities, game

Assignments Due

Friday spelling and vocabulary tests, homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
