Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

My students will learn letters H, I, J, K, L, M, and N in cursive writing, both uppercase and lowercase, and review A – G.

My students will learn to discuss important topics and listen to others discuss.

My students will learn to read silently looking for key details and reasons.

My students will practice reading aloud and comprehend what they have read.

My students will learn new words, definitions, and spellings.

My students will write a short book report.

My students will read reader’s theater, play different roles, and take quizzes to prove they have found and understand key details and reasons. 

My students will read and respond to Think Cerca.

Classroom Activities
  1. We will look at student writing using the document camera and discuss aspects of the writing. (Periods 3/7 only)
  2. We will engage in Town Hall Meetings most days at the beginning of class.
  3. We will discuss book reports (these will be short but should be done well).
  4. We will read reader’s theater plays from Writing Camp.
  5. We will learn spelling and vocabulary words and take a test on them on Friday.
  6. We will read selections from Think Cerca.

  1. Su Mundo es mi mundo – Your world is my world (Spanish)
  2. acquainted – to get to know someone
  3. counselors – young adults who guide and look after younger campers
  4. assignments – tasks or jobs
  5. legends – persons who have great reputations for specific skills
  6. gelato – Italian ice cream (gelati is plural)
  7. scribbling – writing very quickly
  8. approaches – comes closer
  9. irresponsible – acting in a way where chores and tasks are left undone, animals are unfed, tools and possessions are not put away, and appointments are forgotten or missed
  10. self-centered – thinking of yourself above and before others
  11. cannonball – a dive into water where you tuck your arms and legs so you look like a ball
  12. squirms – moving around in place

Wednesday – Short Town Hall Meeting, cursive writing, reader’s theater, Think Cerca                 HOMEWORK – Read aloud Hurricane Preparedness sheet to parent. Parents should sign.

Thursday – Short Town Hall Meeting, cursive writing, reader’s theater, Think Cerca                     HOMEWORK – Write Spelling Words 10x each. Write one sentence with each word. Show    Dr. Forney that you know the meaning of the word. Parents should sign. TEST TOMORROW.

Friday – Short Town Hall Meeting, cursive writing, reader’s theater, Think Cerca        SPELLING and VOCABULARY test, learning games
