LAFS.7.W.2.5 – With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed.

LAFS.7.RI.3.8: Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims.
LAFS.7.SL.1.3: Delineate a speaker’s argument and specific claims, evaluating the soundness of the reasoning and the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.
Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Learning Targets:
 – Students will learn how to formulate an effective argument.
 – Students will engage in critical thinking skills.
 – Students will identify the elements of an argumentative essay:  Hook/Lead, Thesis Statement/Claim, Evidence, Reasoning, Bridge, Counterargument, Turn-Back, Call to Action, and Background Information.

Classroom Activities

Monday, September 23rd – Students will create Greek & Latin roots summative exam.  Instruction on argumentative essay.
Tuesday, September 24th –  Argumentative Essay
Wednesday, September 25th – Periods 1, 2, & 3 = Evaluating an Argument (Ready Florida) Periods 5, 6, & 7 = Novel Study (Students may retake Level I, II, or III of the Greek & Latin roots exam.)
Thursday, September 26th – iReady & IXL:  Z: 1, 2, & 3 – MM: 2 – NN: 1
Friday, September 27th – Summative Exam – Greek & Latin Roots (Covering Levels I, II, & III.)
Begin argumentative essay outline.
