Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.7.RP.1.3

Use proportional relationships to solve multi-step ratio and percent problems.

MAFS.7.EE.1.2

Understand that rewriting an expression in different forms in a problem context can shed light on the problem and how the quantities in it are related.  For example, a + 0.05a = 1.05a means that “increase by 5%” is the same as “multiply by 1.05.”

MAFS.7.G.1.1

Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.

MAFS.7.G.2.5

Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students are successful when they can…

  • solve percent problems when one quantity is a certain percent more or less than another.
  • use proportional reasoning to solve real-world percent problems, including those with multiple steps, such as markups, markdowns, commissions, and fees.
  • recall conversion of percent’s from ratio to decimal to percent form.
  • solve percent of increase/ decrease problems.
  • solve problems with scale drawings of geometric figures.
  • compute actual lengths and area from a scale drawing.
  • reproduce a scale drawing using a different scale.
  • determine actual measurements from a scale drawing.
  • understand scale factor to be the constant of proportionality.
  • create scale drawings in which the horizontal and vertical scales are different.
  • discover the definitions of supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles.
  • solve multi-step problems by applying what you know about the types of angles.
