Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students are successful when they can:

  • understand the meaning of exponents and exponential notation such as 3^2 = 3 * 3.
  • use appropriate terminology to explain how to evaluate an expression.
  • evaluate numerical expressions containing exponents.
  • discover that any base to the zero power is 1.

Assessment Limits:

  • Whole number bases.
  • Whole number exponents.
