MAFS.6.NS.1.1 Interpret and compute quotients of fractions, and solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.

MAFS.6.NS.2.2 Fluently divide multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm.

MAFS.6.NS.2.4 Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions

• Compute fluently with multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples

• Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers

Classroom Activities


Test redo for students who failed previous test.  This test covers greatest common factor (GCF), least common multiple (LCM) and long division.  It has 16 questions and was done on Socrative.

The four students who passed the test the first time were assigned MathSpace to do:

  1. Fractions -> Multiplying Fractions
  2. Fractions -> Dividing Fractions

The MathSpace is an Adaptive assignment and will not be taken for a grade.

Wednesday (Early Release / Short Class Period)

Did IXL.

  1. K.11 – Multiply mixed numbers
  2. L.4 – Divide fractions by whole numbers in recipes


While the 4 students still needing to retake the Long Division took the test, the remaining students moved on to decimal numbers.  We learned about adding and subtracting decimals.

Students did IXL for practice.

  1. G.1 – Add and Subtract decimal numbers

After students finished practicing adding and subtracting decimal numbers, we moved on to multiplying decimals.

Students did IXL for practice.

  1. H.2 – Multiply decimals
