Classroom Activities

Finish Pro/Con article on self-driving cars from NewsELA:

-Students will complete a quick write on the topic stating their claim with evidence from the article and video discussed in class.

-Complete the quiz using numbered heads together to practice test taking strategies.

-Review quote, paraphrase, summarize terminology and glue notes in journal.

-Complete a graphic organizer for summarizing and write a summary of the text.  

Read Eleven from FL Collections Textbook:

-PowerPoint lessons on theme, characterization, narrator and voice.

-Students will complete a partner summarizing worksheet as they read in pairs (PALS) and plot diagram while reading Eleven on pg. 233.

-Students will complete story questions on pg. 238 of the textbook, questions for thought, and literary focus questions from the Eleven Worksheet.  Students will also complete vocabulary questions for the story vocabulary on pg. 239.

 

Assignments Due

5th period- Please return emergency cards as soon as possible!  The first class to return all cards will get a special treat from the school store.

-Students will turn in their quick write on self-driving cars by Tuesday to serve as a diagnostic.

-Students will turn in their summary on self-driving cars.  Students will use the rubric for grading as a guide for completing their summary with accuracy. This may be graded.  

-Students will take a test on Eleven to include comprehension, vocabulary, and written responses.  The test will be graded by section.  

-Students will take a vocabulary test on words sent home Monday.  Students will be learning about these words during instruction and are expected to study them at home.  

Additional Resources

When a student is absent, it is their responsibility to check the absent bin and copy notes from a peer.  Students will have the number of days absent to complete missing work.  If you need the PowerPoint or any assignments emailed, please contact me at weavera@ivyhawnschool.org.
