Learning Criteria

Students will:

  • Trace or evaluate the argument or claims in a section of the text and/or throughout their research
  • Focus on distinguishing arguments or claims that are supported with evidence from those that are not.
  • Analyze, compare, and contrast multiple resources to defend the argument

 

Classroom Activities
  • Enrichment – vocabulary and spelling flash cards (list attached to Q1W6 and Q1W7)
  • ThinkCERCA baseline Writing assessment
  • Choose argument topic
  • Introduce Elements of an Argument
  • Introduce Analyzing Arguments
  • Begin writing & preparing for their argumentative speech (summative)
Assignments Due
  • Reading Logs due on Mondays. Students are to be reading a grade appropriate or higher, fiction or nonfiction, book/novel of their choice for 20-25 minutes nightly.  Students have received a reading log to summarize what they have read each night.  Parents must sign every week
  • Enrichment vocabulary and spelling flash cards – vocabulary and spelling test is scheduled for Friday, September 28.
  • Argument topic choice due Wednesday, Sept 26 (diagnostic)
