LAFS.6.W.1.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences. 

LAFS.6.W.2.4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Learning Target:              

Students will provide a statement of a theme or central idea of a text. (RL.1.2) 

Students will provide a description of how the theme or central idea is conveyed through particular details. (RL.1.2)

Students will provide a comparison and contrast of texts in different forms or genres (e.g., stories and poems; historical novels and fantasy stories) in terms of their approaches to similar themes and topics. (RL.3.9)

Students will write a narrative with relevant details and well-structured sequences of events. (W.1.3)

Students will write an organized narrative that is clear and coherent to the task, purpose, & audience. (W.2.4) 

Learning Criteria

Students will:       

  • Show how theme or central idea is conveyed through details. (RL.1.2)
  • Compare & contrast different genres that are similar in themes & topics. (RL.3.9)
  • Write an organized narrative with well-structured events that is clear & coherent. (W.1.3 & W.2.4)

  • Greek Mythology Unit assessment remediation
  • Using the elements in myths, students will continue writing an original myth
  • Create a shield depicting the setting, characters, conflict, and resolution for the original myth
  • IXL M.1 (Use the correct frequently confused word)
  • iReady 2 lesson minimum
  • Comparing & contrasting memoirs and biographies
