Summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context, such as by:
a. reporting the number of observations.
b. describing the nature of the attribute under investigation, including how it was measured and its units of measurement.
c. giving quantitative measures of center (median and/or mean) and variability (interquartile range and/or mean absolute deviation), as well as describing any overall pattern and any striking deviations from the overall pattern with reference to the context in which the data were gathered.
d. relating the choice of measures of center and variability to the shape of the data distribution and the context in which the data were gathered.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• understand that the mean is a balance point by calculating the distances of the data points from the mean and call the distances, deviations.
• understand that the mean is the value such that the sum of the deviations is equal to zero.
• write a data collection summary (5 number summary) that includes the number of observations, what is being investigated, how it is measured, and the units of measurement.
• justify the use of a particular measure of center or measure of variability based on the shape of the data.
• use a measure of center and a measure of variation to draw inferences about the shape of the data distribution.
• describe overall patterns and any deviations in the data and how they relate to the context of the problem.

Classroom Activities

This week we will focus on graphing our statistical data. Students will be able to practice this using MathSpace/IXL and different teacher led notebook activities.

Assignments Due

Due this week:

Box and Whisker Homework (Mathspace) Due 11-21-17

Stem and Leaf Plots Lesson GG18 (IXL) Due 11-21-17

Students are expected to study this long break week the concepts we have been covering in class. We will have our second DIA on Friday 12-1-17.

Additional Resources

Students are able to complete additional practice on both MathSpace and IXL
