Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• recognize that variables represent unknown quantities.
• translate verbal expressions into numerical expressions and numerical expressions into verbal expressions.
• communicate orally and/or in writing about translating and evaluating variable expressions using precise mathematical language, including the vocabulary variables, coefficients, constant, and term.
• evaluate expressions for given values of variables using the order of operations when appropriate.

• understand that the properties used with numbers also apply to expressions with variables. • apply the properties of operations with expressions involving variables to generate equivalent expressions.

Classroom Activities

In class, we complete the MATH workshop each period. This is a blended, rotation model of teaching where your student is receiving the standards in multiple different settings while completing many different activities. This allows me to have time with your students in a very small group setting to help when necessary further develop the understanding of the standards.

Wednesdays we do not complete our rotation. We work lessons customized to each students level on I-Ready. These lessons are customized to each learning level and scaffolds the current unit for each student.

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems.
