• understand that the properties used with numbers also apply to expressions with variables. • apply the properties of operations with expressions involving variables to generate equivalent expressions.• explore the concept of like terms and applying combining like terms in expressions accurately. • reason that two expressions are equivalent through the use of substitution. • explain reasoning to other classmates and the teacher using precise mathematical vocabulary.

Classroom Activities

In class, we complete the MATH workshop each period. This is a blended, rotation model of teaching where your student is receiving the standards in multiple different settings while completing many different activities. This allows me to have time with your students in a very small group setting to help when necessary further develop the understanding of the standards.

Wednesdays we do not complete our rotation. We work lessons customized to each students level on I-Ready. These lessons are customized to each learning level and scaffolds the current unit for each student allowing advanced students to work ahead and help remediate struggling students.

students are expected to reach at least an 80% on these assignments.

Mathspace: (Thursday/Friday) Equivalent Expressions Homework

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems.

Students are able to complete additional practice on both Mathspace and IXL
