Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to equations of the form x2 = p and x3 = p, where p is a positive rational number. Evaluate square roots of small perfect squares and cube roots of small perfect cubes. Know that √2 is irrational.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• recognize taking a square root as the inverse of squaring a number
• recognize taking a cube root as the inverse of cubing a number
• evaluate the square root of a perfect square
• evaluate the cube root of a perfect cube
• justify that the square root of a non-perfect square will be irrational

Classroom Activities


This week has been continuing our practice with slope-intercept formula and continuing onto square roots and cube roots. We have been practicing by completing both in class and digital activities. 

We are continuing our 2018 Math Olympics (FSA Review Project) This will be partly done in class and at home and is due on Wednesday April 18, 2018. Please see Q4W1 for Rubric and Printable information regarding the project. 

Assignments Due

Our first assignment of the quarter is due on Thursday 3/29/18 “Function Homework” on Mathspace.

We will be taking our first test of the quarter on Thursday 4/5/18 covering identifying functions, function tables, and using the slope-intercept formula.

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems. 

Students are able to complete additional practice on both MathSpace and IXL.
