Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.6.NS.3.6a, b, c
Understand a rational number as a point on the number line. Extend number line diagrams and coordinate axes familiar from previous grades to represent points on the line and in the plane with negative number coordinates.
a. Understand the signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by sign, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes.
b. Find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram; find and position pairs of integers and other rational numbers on a coordinate plane.
c. Find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• use vertical and horizontal number lines to show integers.
• plot integers on the number line and coordinates in all four quadrants of a coordinate plane.
• understand that the signs of numbers in ordered pairs represent a singular location on the coordinate plane.
• understand that an ordered pair is composed of two parts: The first coordinate refers to the x-axis, and the second coordinate refers to the y-axis.
• recognize the signs of all ordered pairs on the coordinate plane: Quadrant I (+,+), Quadrant II (-,+), Quadrant III (-,-), and Quadrant IV (+,-).
• understand that changing the sign of one or both numbers in the ordered pair will create a reflection on the point.
• find reflection points across axes.

Classroom Activities

In class, we complete the MATH workshop each period. This is a blended, rotation model of teaching where your student is receiving the standards in multiple different settings while completing many different activities. This allows me to have time with your students in a very small group setting to help when necessary further develop the understanding of the standards.

Wednesdays we do not complete our rotation. We work lessons customized to each students level on I-Ready. These lessons are customized to each learning level and scaffolds the current unit for each student allowing advanced students to work ahead and help remediate struggling students.

Assignments Due

The week students will be assigned the following to practice class concepts:

IXL: (Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday)  None

students are expected to reach at least an 80% on these assignments.

Mathspace: (Thursday/Friday) None

Integer Test Thursday/Friday April 18/19

Additional Resources

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems.

Students are able to complete additional practice on both Mathspace and IXL
