MAFS.7.G.2.4

Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and solve problems; give an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• state the formula for finding the circumference of a circle.
• state the formula for finding the area of a circle.
• calculate the circumference of a circle using formulas.
• understand how the formula for the area of a circle can be derived from the area of a parallelogram.
• understand the relationship between area and circumference of a circle.
• calculate the area of a circle using formulas.
• determine the diameter or radius of a circle when the circumference is given.
• Determine the circumference from area and area from circumference.
• apply a ratio and algebraic reasoning to compare the area and circumference of a circle.

Classroom Activities

This week we will be starting our Geometry Part 2 (upper level geometry) unit. We will be starting with area and circumference of a circle for this weeks lessons.

Assignments Due

Students have been given an IXL assignment this week to practice circumference and area of a circle.

7th Grade IXL: AA5 and AA6

We will be testing on this concept on Thursday, May 10

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems.

Students are able to complete additional practice on both MathSpace and IXL.
