Unit of InstructionEarth Systems
Standard(s) Taught

SC.6.E.7.4  Differentiate and show interactions among the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.

SC.6.E.7.9  Describe how the composition and structure of the atmosphere protects life and insulates the planet.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will: • differentiate among the Earth’s:

Geosphere , Hydrosphere, Cryosphere , Atmosphere, and Biosphere

• describe the interactions between the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere

Students will: • describe the composition and structure of the Earth’s atmosphere

• describe the functions of the four main layers of Earth’s atmosphere: Thermosphere, Mesosphere, Stratosphere, Troposphere

• explain how Earth’s atmosphere protects life and insulates the planet including the ozone layer

• discuss the impacts to life if Earth’s atmosphere is compromised due to climate change and ozone depletion

Classroom Activities

Students will create an edible version of the Earth’s geosphere.

Students will create a model of the ozone layer and explain the way it affects the planet.

Students will review for the DIA#4 and make a study guide using their ISN.

Assignments Due

Study for the DIA #4 on 12/9 or 12/10.

Students are needing a new science notebook for next semester. Glue sticks and clear tape are also needed by Dec. 18th please.

Additional Resources

ESE/ 504 : Extra time and small group will be available for assignments. Scaffolding of the material and reading content based questions will be used. Copies of the power point will be made available for note-taking purposes. Content material will be read aloud to students if applicable.
