Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will: • differentiate between weather and climate

Students will: • explain how the cycling of water between the atmosphere and hydrosphere affects weather patterns and climate

• Investigate how the water cycle affects local climate and weather

• analyze atmospheric conditions and their resulting weather phenomena such as hurricanes, tornadoes, lighting, fronts and precipitation.

• investigate how natural disasters (hurricanes, tornadoes, lightening, etc) have affected human life in Florida

• describe ways human beings protect themselves from hazardous weather and sun exposure

Classroom Activities

Students will write a script, act out, and describe various weather conditions including showing weather patterns while “forecasting” the weather.

Students will role play several ways to protect themselves from hazardous weather and sun exposure.

Students will analyze different weather phenomena in Florida and the affect is has on human life.

Additional Resources

ESOL/ESE/ 504 : Extra time and small group will be available for assignments. Scaffolding of the material and reading content based questions will be used. Copies of the power point will be made available for note-taking purposes. Content material will be read aloud to students if applicable. Visuals  will be provided for explanation of material.
