SS.6.G.1.6- Use a map to identify major bodies of water of the world, and explain ways they have impacted the development of civilizations. 

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will..

  • Students will identify lines of latitude and longitude on a map
  • Students will understand the terms degrees and coordinates and that latitude and longitude are measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds.
  •  Students will locate and identify the equator, prime meridian, tropic of Cancer, and tropic of Capricorn, as well as their latitude and longitude.
  • Students will identify the locations of continents and explain how the major bodies of water impacted the development of different civilizations.
Classroom Activities

Welcome to 6th grade world history/ Advanced world history! 

This week we will focus on:

  • Mrs. Smith’s classroom expectations 
  • Getting to know their teacher and classmates
  • Covering Mrs’s Smith syllabus
  • Analyze the lines of latitude and longitude on a globe and map. 
  • Set up our history notebooks and create our first activity- filling in a map and pasting it into our notebook so we can use it as a reference guide throughout the year (if needed).
Assignments Due

No assignments will be due this week 🙂 

Additional Resources

ALL IEP and ESOL accommodations will be provided daily.

When a student is absent, it is their responsibility to check the absent files in class and copy notes from a peer.  Students will have the number of days absent to complete missing work.  If you need any assignments emailed, please contact me at smithk@ivyhawnschool.org.
